Updates & upgrades.
Fair by design. You own your version forever — and you decide if a new major is worth it.
Patches & minor updates
- Bug fixes and stability patches
- Performance and polish
- Smaller feature improvements
- Nothing to do — they just arrive
Major releases
- Big new features, roughly once a year
- Completely optional — only if you want it
- Your current version keeps working
- A one-time upgrade, not a subscription
You decide. If a major release isn't for you, skip it — your license never expires and nothing gets switched off. We keep shipping fixes and improvements to everyone. No subscriptions, ever.
Do I have to upgrade to new major versions?
No. Major upgrades are entirely optional. Your version stays fully functional forever, and you keep getting free patches and minor updates either way. You only pay if you want the new big features in a future major release.
Is this a subscription?
No. There's no recurring charge and nothing to cancel. A major upgrade is a one-time purchase, made only when you choose to. Skip it and nothing changes about your existing license.
I just bought TalePal — what's included?
Your purchase includes the current version plus all updates released within 12 months of your purchase — minor updates, patches, and any major version that ships in that window. After that you keep everything you have, and only future majors are an optional paid upgrade. See our Terms for the details.
Why charge for major releases at all?
So we can keep building. A major release is months of real work — significant new capabilities, not just maintenance. A small, optional upgrade fee lets us fund that without ever putting TalePal behind a subscription.
